Setup UNIX Printer

What must be done before this process is started:
Work Order (usually) and the printer will need to be setup as an NT printer first with a valid "static" ip address.
Which processes are waiting for this process:
Datatel reports printed out on this new printer.
Source documents or communication with information needed for this process:
What is the end-result of this process, or the hand-off
Datatel reports can be printed out to this new printer.
What steps must be taken independent of the computer system (Manual Process)
Maybe a test page print out from the printer itself.
Which steps must be taken on a computer (Electronic Process):
Unix Printer Setup

– Input the static ip address into the DNS server (Internal)
– Log into Reflections as Root.
– Sam and then Enter
– Enter for the next screen
– Printer and Plotters and then Enter
– LP Spooler and then Enter
– Printer and Plotters and then Enter
– Hold Tab and Press A (for actions)
– Add Network-Based Printer/Plotter and then Enter
– Add Printer/Plotter Connected to HP JetDirect… and then Enter
– A Confirmation window will appear and you can simply hit Y for Yes.
– A Note window will appear and you can simply hit O for Ok.
- 1 - for Spooler Administration and then press Enter
– 1 – for Add printer to local spooler
– Enter the name of the new printer NOTE: you have to press the spacebar until it prompts you to type the new name of the printer* (example – vstup2) and then press Enter
– 1 - To change the name of the new printer (from vstup2_1 to vstup2) and then press Enter
- Type the name of the printer and then press Enter
– 5 or 6 – More options so you can turn off Banner and then press Enter
– Whichever # – Here simply type the number that corresponds to the banner page (usually 5 but maybe different). Once you type the number and hit enter it will toggle the selection.
– Q for quit and then 0 for make changes.
– Repeat steps 13 – 17 for the underscore C and L options.
– Q to quit the Sam.
– From the prompt change directories to the following: /var/spool/lp/interface/model.orig
– VI and the name of your new printer (vstup2). Example – VI vstup2
– Type the following as you see it here: /ori (what this will do is input you right into the configuration portion of this file for this new printer. It should put you to the Oreintation of the page setup but if not press /ori again and it should put you there).
– Change orientations and pitches accordingly: Orientation will be P for portrait, L for Landscape, and C for Condensed. Pitches will be 10.7 for Portrait (regular), 12.5 for Landscape, and 17.7 for Condensed.
NOTE: Sometimes and underscore T option maybe needed and the settings are as follows: Orientation = p, Pitch = 12.6, Texlen = 35, Imargin = 7, Tmargin = 11, and VSI = 7.
– Shift ! and then wq (write quit) – This is what you will type when you’re all done with configurations and you want to save your work. If you want to quit without saving your work simply type Shift ! and then q (quit).
NOTE: Shift ! will produce a semi-colon ( : )
– Print a test page from the command prompt: banner This is a Test Page| lp –d “printer name”.
– Logout of Reflections and you are all done.
