EXPANDING ALLIED HEALTH EDUCATION AND WORKFORCE TRAINING
Preparing more students for careers that care for our community
Crafton Hills College plays an important role in preparing students for careers in health care, emergency medical services, and other essential fields. As demand for career-focused education continues, the College needs instructional spaces that can keep pace with enrollment, changing technology, and the hands-on training required for today’s workforce.
The Public Safety and Allied Health building had an average Room Use Efficiency of 161%, the highest reported classroom utilization on campus and far above the 40% campuswide average. MEETING STUDENT AND WORKFORCE DEMAND
Allied Health education requires more than traditional classrooms. Students benefit from specialized instructional environments where they can develop technical skills and gain hands-on experience that prepares them to enter the workforce.
Crafton Hills College’s long-range planning process specifically considers local employment trends, student enrollment projections, program needs, and the regional economic outlook when identifying future facility priorities. The College also identifies career and technical education, including training, retraining, and skill development, as one of its core educational goals.
Crafton Hills College’s planned Allied Health Building could support programs including Vocational Nursing, Nursing Assistant, Home Health Aide, Phlebotomy, and Physical Therapy. The plan also includes campuswide classroom and technology improvements that could support students across health fields, including Respiratory Care and Radiologic Technology.
San Bernardino Valley College’s plan envisions a practice clinic for Pharmacy Technician, Surgery Technician, Phlebotomy, and Medical Billing and Coding. The proposed learning environment could include a blood lab, pharmacy area, waiting room, and office space for instruction and practice.
WHAT MEASURE Y COULD PROVIDE
Measure Y would authorize up to $898 million in locally controlled bond funding for Crafton Hills College, San Bernardino Valley College, and workforce training sites districtwide. Under the measure, funds could be used to repair and upgrade classrooms, laboratories, training spaces, infrastructure, technology, and equipment, including facilities supporting nursing, health care, firefighting, emergency response, skilled trades, and other workforce programs.
For Allied Health education, these investments could support modernized classrooms and labs, updated instructional technology and equipment, flexible hands-on training environments, and additional capacity to respond to changing student and workforce needs, where those projects are included within the measure’s authorized project scope.
At Crafton Hills College, planned improvements include the Allied Health Building, active-learning classroom upgrades, and updates to technology, electrical systems, utilities, exterior lighting, and the central plant. Together, these projects could support the learning spaces and systems students rely on across health programs.
INVESTING IN THE PEOPLE WHO SERVE OUR COMMUNITY
Students trained at our local community colleges become the professionals our region depends on. Modern Allied Health facilities can help students learn in environments that better reflect contemporary workplaces, strengthen hands-on preparation, and support pathways from the classroom into essential careers.
The planned improvements focus on the space, technology, and training environments necessary to prepare the next generation of professionals who will serve our community.
