Safe Return to Campus Starts August 1
By now, you may be aware that California has surpassed a major milestone in the fight
against COVID — administering more than 20 million vaccine doses, including 4 million
in the state’s hardest-hit communities, helping hospitalizations to steadily decline.
With these public health improvements, California aims to fully reopen on June 15, while continuing to require masking and encouraging everyone to get vaccinated.
As we look ahead, there is good news to report about our Fall 2021 plans. Given the decline in cases and vaccine eligibility for anyone 16 years or older, we are planning a safe return to campus for the Fall semester with in-person classes.
Your Health and Safety Continues to be Our Priority
Before we come back and reopen our campus doors on August 1, we will update our SBCCD Reopening Plan to outline multiple protective measures, including:
- Requiring face masks for all students, faculty, staff, and visitors while on campus
and SBCCD facilities.
- Classroom, office, and outdoor facility reconfiguration based on Occupational Safety
and Health (OSHA) requirements.
- Continued communication on free COVID testing and vaccine availability for students,
faculty, and staff who wish to get vaccinated. To be sure, the COVID vaccine will
remain optional.
Summer 2021: Online & Distance Education
- While we prepare for a safe reopening, we will continue to hold the Summer 2021 term
with mostly online and distance education courses.
- A limited number of courses will continue to meet in person, like career training
programs considered essential by the State of California.
- Apply now for the Summer 2021 term. Courses begin on May 31 at San Bernardino Valley College and June 1 at Crafton Hills College.

Support for Employees
Providing our students with uninterrupted, caring support is a team effort — and we
are here to help you be successful.
- While most faculty and staff will return to work in person, we will collaborate with
department managers, union leaders, and individual employees to accommodate flexible
work schedules when possible.
- If you need individual assistance, please contact your Human Resources team. Please contact Janae Jacoby or Tiffany Guevara with any questions regarding work accommodations or for updated leave guidance.
Prepare for a Safe Return on August 1 — Stay Informed
- As we get ready for a safe return to in-person learning and working, we will be posting
regular updates on our SBCCD COVID-19 information hub. We encourage you to check it frequently.
- In the meantime, please continue taking every possible measure to ensure you remain
safe and healthy.
