Steps to Enrollment
Follow these steps to start your apprenticeship journey. Our team is here to guide you through each stage of the process.
1. Complete Interest Form
Each apprenticeship program has its own prerequisites and requirements checklist.
2. Attend an Information Session
Sessions may involve representatives from SBVC, LAUNCH, faculty, or employers.
3. Start Pre-Apprenticeship & Register as an Apprentice
Secure employment and begin job placement.
4. Employer Hiring Process & Selection
Proceed through the employer's hiring and selection steps.
5. Schedule an Interview
Meet with the SBVC Apprenticeship Coordinator and CTE Counselor to review education alignment with the approved apprenticeship certificate and degree programs.
6. Submit SBVC LAUNCH Apprenticeship Application
Complete and submit the application for the program.
7. Register for Approved Courses
Tuition is waived. Apprentices take 144 hours of coursework across 2-3 courses per year while maintaining employment.
8. Follow-Up & Progress Check-Ins
Participate in meetings, track Workhands hours, and update progress toward completion.

Heavy/Medium Duty Truck Technology Apprenticeship
| Program Duration: 24 months
Program Overview
Gain skills in brakes/suspension, computer-controlled engines, and heavy-duty maintenance.
Prerequisites
- Must have a California driver's license
- Must complete an introductory course at the school
- Employers may require a drug test and background check
- Entry into Apprenticeship Program includes conditions

- Prior to starting, students must show proof of a clear criminal background check.
- Candidates must complete a minimum of 39.00 units of prescribed coursework with a minimum grade of "C" (80% or higher) in all Emergency Medical Services courses.

Apprentices have their tuition waived while they are in the Apprenticeship Program.
How do I get started as an apprentice?

How long do apprenticeships last?
The Apprenticeship Programs last anywhere from six months to two years, depending on the program and pathway you choose.
What degree will I earn after I complete the apprenticeship program?
You will earn a State Apprenticeship Certificate upon completing the Apprenticeship Program. If the program at your school offers a degree in the program you choose, you may work towards that degree while you are in the program.
What wage will I earn?
Wages vary and are determined by the employer that you interview with and are hired by. Each employer has a wage scale for each position that they offer.
