Professional Design Award of Merit

The San Bernardino Valley College Technical Education Building was honored with a 2025 Professional Design Award of Merit, recognizing its innovative approach to expanding high-demand workforce training in the Inland Empire. This 114,897-square-foot facility consolidates SBVC’s leading technical programs—including automotive, hybrid/EV, machining, welding, HVAC, electrical, water technology, and automation—into a modern, future-ready learning environment.
Designed with a strong commitment to sustainability and student well-being, the building incorporates thermal solar chimneys, tubular daylighting devices, daylight walls, high-velocity low-speed fans, operable windows, modular wetlands, and an all-electric mechanical system. Photovoltaic arrays across the roof and entry canopy generate up to 70% of the facility’s energy use, significantly reducing operational impact while enhancing comfort and building performance.
This award celebrates SBCCD’s dedication to delivering state-of-the-art facilities that support technical education, promote environmental stewardship, and strengthen pathways to high-quality careers for students across the region.
