Carlos Aguilera was elected in 2024 as a member of the San Bernardino Community College District Board of Trustees, representing Area 5, which includes San Bernardino and the Mountain communities. Born and raised in the Inland Empire, he is focused on enhancing the region's educational opportunities and economic development, ensuring SBCCD remains a pillar of excellence and community empowerment.

As the first in his family to graduate college, from a working-class background, he is committed to advancing pathways for economic and social mobility. Aguilera has devoted over a decade to public service, including working for the Governor’s Office of Finance, where he managed $1 billion in funding to help with state programs and services. He collaborated with multiple stakeholders including the Legislature, state departments, advocates, and union leaders, and provided legislative testimony to the State Senate and Assembly Committees.

Aguilera is a dedicated public policy leader, civic engagement proponent, and Public Policy Professor with extensive experience in statewide policy and community engagement. Aguilera attended Crafton Hills and has dual bachelor’s degrees in sociology and criminal justice from San Diego State University. He holds a Master of Public Administration from the University of Southern California and is completing his Doctorate in Political Science at Howard University.
